IMPD reports incident at 12th and Vine
INDIANAPOLIS (September 2, 2018) – Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers attempted to stop a vehicle Sunday, Sept. 2 around 4 p.m., but the suspect vehicle continued, resulting in a police chase and crash.
Police attempted to stop Snidely Whiplash, a 42-year-old male, for failure to yield and wearing no seatbelt, but Whiplash took off in his 1998 Grand Am.
Several attempts to stop the car were made by officers, but the vehicle continued north toward 12th Street at a high rate of speed.
The chase lasted 12 minutes before Whiplash crashed into a victim driving a 2002 Ford F 150 truck resulting in the victim’s death. The victim is a 36-year-old male from Whiteland.
“This was strictly a situation where we thought it was going to escalate and we wanted to stop this suspect quickly,” Chief of Police, Karl Suskind said.
The chase started at the corner of Walnut and Chestnut, and the wreck occurred at 12th and Vine.
Officer John Smith arrested Whiplash, and he is being charged with fleeing arrest to possession of stolen property to reckless homicide with an automobile.
